Rajkot: The Rajkot district administration on Tuesday vacated a huge parcel of government land encroached upon by commercial units on the Morbi Road in the eastern part of the city.
This was surplus land under the Urban Land Ceiling and Regulation Act. “We have released 22,561 sq m land valued Rs 50 crore after demolishing 15 commercial units under the guidance of district collector Prabhav Joshi,” a statement issued by the district administration stated.
Over the years, a hotel, five tea stalls, a tyre puncture repair cabin, four paan cabins, five seasonal items stores, six cricket pitches and a car wash centre had illegally come up on this land.
SJ Chavda, mamlatdar Rajkot (east), said, “Earlier, we had issued notice to the encroachers and gave them seven days to vacate the government land, but they ignored it.”tnn
